The Guadalupe Historic District
in Santa Fe, New Mexico

The Guadalupe District is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Santa Fe. Originally a farming community, it became a bustling marketplace in 1880 when the Railyard trains began to bring new residents and goods, as well as tourists. When the era of train travel gave way to automobiles, the community declined.

There was an artistic resurgence in the 1960's, and then, most recently, the Railrunner Train began connecting Santa Fe to Alburquerque and the Railyard restoration project brought the nearby Railyard District back to life...including the Santa Fe Farmer's Market which offers year-round access through both indoor and outdoor markets held Tuesday and Saturday mornings weekly.

Today, the Guadalupe District is a charming area rich with history and style, and it is home to a vibrant mix of restaurants and shops, with the historical Railyard and Farmer's Market on the south end,  the famous Santuario de Guadalupe church and shrine, a local and national treasure in the middle, and growing number of businesses and eateries on the north end.

What will I find along Guadalupe Street in
the Guadalupe Historic District in Santa Fe, New Mexico?
SIGNED COPIES  of GAME OF THRONES!  (WHO KNEW?)

Book and film lovers can purchase SIGNED COPIES of GAME OF THRONES  at the Jean Cocteau Cinema, a hidden treasure in the heart of the Guadalupe Historic District in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Author George R. R. Martin, who wrote the series Game of Thrones, bought the theater and renovated the building, reopening it on August 9  2013. Now, the cinema has 128 seats in the main hall auditorium. It also has a separate VIP booth with seating for 4.  With 132 seats, a single screen, and what some claim is the best popcorn in town. The Jean Cocteau Cinema considers itself  Santa Fe’s most eclectic and "hometown" movie house.  The cinema shows  film on both 35 mm and digital, combining the best of the old with the best of the new. The  Jean Cocteau Cinema has also been a popular place for live music events, invites authors for readings and book signings, serves coffee and also serves drinks from a full liquor licensed bar, plus sells books and merchandise from the in-house bookstore - which features signed hardback and softback copies of all of George RR Martin's works.

Sanbusco Market Center got a Make-Over and is now New Mexico School for the Arts

In the late 1800’s, Santa Fe Builders Supply Company (nicknamed “Sanbusco”) was one of the first businesses built along the new ATS&F Railroad line. The center thrived for many years and by 1942 grew to a cluster of warehouses and sheds totaling five acres. Eventually, the changes in railroad use left most of the structures abandoned, but after Schepps New Mexico purchased the site in 1984, and removed 100 years worth of plaster, the western warehouse aesthetic was revealed.
